Ana Fabiano, Advocacy Ambassador, Rioja DOCa & The Rioja Wine Academy invite you to an informative session on The Rioja Wine Academy and explorative discussion about Rioja Blanco. Ana will be joined by 5 CAPS Rioja Academy Ambassadors, representing each of CAPS’ regional chapters including: Lesley Quinn (Atlantic), Kler-yann Bouteillier (Quebec), Colleen Petrick (Ontario), Linda Villagos (Manitoba) and Todd Prucyk (British Columbia).
This month, 30 years ago, Rioja became the first and today one of only 2 wine regions in Spain to have this DOCa status which is that country’s highest quality designation. It requires many qualitative and quantitative criteria and requirements from vineyard management through bottling. Bottling is exceptionally important here since with this designation Rioja relinquished all bulk production. All DOCa Rioja wine must be bottled at the point of origin. In the final years of the 20th Century this was a decisive and courageous move to take the "road" into the 21st Century with premiumization, diversity, integrity and above all quality as firm commitments.
With Rioja making up 31 per cent of Spain’s volume and 41 per cent of its value, Rioja stands in an elite group of wine regions around the world, that deserve a sommelier’s attention and knowledge.
